I am expecting that until home values bounce back in my area, the Tri-City / Fox Valley area of Chicagoland, and likewise in other regions that are painfully adjusting, we'll continue to see a flurry of remodeling. As folks recede from buying and selling, they typically need some space for a growing family, or changing lifestyle, and remodeling will be a more palatable option for them. Then, once the family size grows to a certain level, they leap back into the buying/selling game in full force. The cycle continues. Even baby boomers or seniors looking to downsize or find floorplan that works for their lifestyle, may look at remodeling to make a space more agreeable to their lives. I like your article about the insurance aspect of this - had a claim a few months ago, and if I hadn't been covered right, I would have been toast!
